“Me Too” Companies
“Me too” companies justify their business choices with the successes of other companies. “So-and-so shipped over a million units last quarter. Why aren’t we in that business? Why aren’t we serving that market?” If that’s how your product discussions start, you’re dead.
You’re going to spend boatloads of money building an app that someone else has already built and grown with the hope of luring some of their disgruntled users to your “prettier, more user-focused, more robust” app. What you’ll end up with is something uninspiring that might make a few bucks here and there. But you’ll be the follower and everyone will know it. They’ll see you as the company with no ideas, no innovation, and no guts. And they will be right.
